William B. Meyer, Inc. Delivers
5 Million Cookies For the Girl Scouts
When one thinks of Girls Scout cookies, one often reflects on the true American spirit of volunteerism and community involvement. More than five million Girl Scout cookies- all varieties and favorites including Samoas, Thin Mints and Tagalongs will delivered to four locations in Connecticut this week including Bridgeport, Monroe, Fairfield and Stratford. William B. Meyer, Inc., one of the leading transportation and logistics providers in the Northeast, headquartered in Stratford, CT, will transport the Girl Scout cookies to various locations this Saturday where they will be picked up by Girls Scout "Cookie Managers" arriving in the largest vehicles they can maneuver.
William B. Meyer, Inc. was selected by the Girls Scouts of Housatonic Council to move these tasty treats totaling over a quarter of a million boxes for the fourth year in a row. The weight of this shipment is approximately 200,000 pounds. Now . . . that's a lot of cookies. To some, it would appear to be a logistical nightmare, but William B. Meyer, Inc. Vice President of Operations, Jim Brown states, "At William B. Meyer, Inc., we work as a team to make this type of delivery run as smoothly as possible. All areas of our organization are involved from the truck drivers to the warehouse staff to the customer service professionals. The logistics are carefully thought out, so that our customers are completely satisfied. William B. Meyer, Inc. takes pride in knowing that our expertise will benefit such a wonderful association like the Girl Scouts and we are proud to be a part of it. It is very important to us to make a contribution to the community."
The Girl Scouts of Housatonic Council have 300 troops and over 1,000 volunteers are involved in the cookie sales to make it a success. The troops are located in Bridgeport, Easton, Monroe, Milford, Stratford, Trumbull and Fairfield. The profits from the cookies support many worthwhile programs for the Girl Scouts throughout the year. They encourage the Girl Scouts to set goals and achieve them. Safety for the girls is an utmost concern and the Girl Scouts are trained to sell the cookies in a safe way with an adult supervisor. "Working with the professionals at William B. Meyer, Inc. makes this huge project so much easier. It is truly a pleasure! The cookie sales enable us to accomplish our goals and support our programs throughout the year." states Margaret Hansen-Kaplan, Director of Girl Program.
