to William B. Meyer, Inc.
Franklin, MA - Do you need to move 500,000 books? The library relocation service that William B. Meyer, Inc. offers has developed a national reputation for excellence. In 2004, their team of professionals was entrusted to relocate the Abraham Lincoln Memorial Library in Springfield, IL. During the past few years, William B. Meyer, Inc. noted that their library relocation projects involved an increased need for both the temporary and long-term off-site storage of books. William B. Meyer, Inc. has created a home for these books through a cooperative effort with Nelinet, Inc.
In January of 2003, the New England Regional Depository opened its doors. Libraries of the Northeast now have a cost-effective customized storage solution. William B. Meyer's depository knowledge stems from having over twenty years experience in handling library collections and their extensive experience in the records and information management industry.
William B. Meyer, Inc. offers the book depository solution as a one of the highlights of its library relocation and management business line which is highly regarded throughout the industry. The New England Regional Depository was customized to meet specific requirements for temperature and humidity control, as well as fire and theft protection. This feature facilitates the longevity of stored collections. The temperature and humidity control is similar to that of a well-maintained air-conditioned library, with a consistent year-round temperature of 68º (+ 4º), and a relative humidity of 50% (+ 5º). The building employs open shelves with high density racking and open acid-free book trays (pH 8.0) in multiple sizes. These attributes contribute to the cost-effectiveness of the book depository as a solution to the temporary and long-term off-site storage of books.
As a leader in the area of library technology, William B. Meyer, Inc. employs a system that can read any barcodes and thus can customize and provide flexibility for the storage options for any institution. They will develop an interface for any standard local library system to enable item status updates to pass between your local library system and the William B. Meyer, Inc. inventory control system. If an individual item is requested by 2 P.M. on any given weekday, that item will be delivered to the requesting location within 24 hours. Materials can also be delivered electronically if a specific article stored is requested, thus reducing the cost of shipping the book. Additionally, the William B. Meyer, Inc. technology system will generate standard statistical reports, such as lists of titles housed and requested (sorted by author, title, bar code and shelf location.)
Simmons College is in the process of renovating their library facility and has been employing the services of William B. Meyer, Inc. and the New England Book Depository since its grand opening. Meyer, Inc. library relocation and management team also shifted the collections that remained onsite during the renovation.
